Today, we here in the United States celebrate Independence Day. There is nothing I enjoy more than going to another state, like New Mexico, and buying fireworks. I’m like a kid in a candy store. I’m not going to get into the reasons why fireworks should or shouldn’t be legal. I understand both sides of the discussion. However, my Substack is about having fun, not political arguments.
Whether you prefer watching a local fireworks show, on television, or, like me, lighting up the night sky on your own, think about why we have this holiday. I know these are crazy times we live in. Everyone is right, and everyone is wrong. As you sit back and enjoy the day with friends, family, and significant others, always remember the men and women who fought for our freedom. Thanks to them, we can argue back and forth with each other in person, or on social media. I realize Memorial Day, Armed Forces Day, and Veterans Day are annual traditions, but I consider Independence Day a time to honor our soldiers as well.
In the past, I have celebrated this holiday outside of California. My favorite time was at my sister and brother-in-law’s house in Missouri. Those Missourians know how to celebrate July 4th. Unfortunately, I’m not there this year, but next year, I’ll be the one holding the Roman candle. Tell me how you celebrate July 4th. Maybe you don’t celebrate it at all, and that’s okay. Tell me about that as well. I’d love to chat with you all about it.
Happy Independence Day to all of my subscribers! Be safe out there, and if you happen to know someone in the military, or see them today, tell them thanks. Better yet, give them a hot dog or hamburger and a nice cold root beer.
