It’s Father’s Day weekend. I’ve been a father for 26 years, yet the day still feels like it belongs to my Dad. I know it’s a day to celebrate me, but even at my age, I still feel like my father should get all the attention. We all celebrated my father last weekend at his home in Oxnard, CA, and it was a wonderful time. He’s a coin collector, so he was thrilled when I gave him a silver Queen Elizabeth coin.
I’ve recently become a fan of the TV show “Hell’s Kitchen” on the Fox network. I realize I’m one of the few who haven’t seen it; I don’t have time to watch TV shows; I’m too busy. Anyway, I’ve always enjoyed cooking shows. I’m old enough to remember Julia Child. I loved her! Gordon Ramsey is the real deal. I realize he’s militant, but since I grew up on tough love, I have no problem with his approach when dealing with his kitchen staff.
I’ve wanted to try his restaurant, and I finally had the opportunity this weekend. It is a bit pricey, but it was worth it. I had the beef Wellington, which is Gordon’s signature dish. I saw it made so many times on the show; I was counting down the days to this meal. There’s one in Las Vegas, but the one I tried is in Funner, California. I know; I never heard of it until I looked it up. The restaurant is inside Harrah’s Resort. There will be a link below. It was one of the best meals I’ve had at a restaurant.
I don’t want to spoil everything if you plan on going, but it looks like what you see on TV. The staff was attentive, and again, the food was terrific.
I realize Father’s Day may be challenging for some folks. I have friends who have lost their dads, and even though they may have passed a while ago, I’m sure the pain of that loss remains. I’m fortunate to have my Dad still around, and I tell him I love him every time I see him. If your Dad is still with us, cherish the time and create new memories. To those whose Dads have gone on, remember the good times and what they did to make you who you are today.
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Until next time, God bless.
Wow looks delicious! Happy Father’s Day to you and your dad! I love to learn that he is a coin collector, what a neat fun fact. The pictures here look so good, I imagine the meal was as good as you said it was. I’ll have to add it to my list for next time I’m driving through California.
